If you are in the market for a mid-size vehicle that can handle just about anything, we’ve got good news for you, because the Ford Ranger is set to return to Ford’s North American line-up and it is widely expected to include a version of the wildly-popular Raptor. Here we will take a brief look at some of the many highlights you can expect from Ford’s latest and greatest adventure vehicle.
Plenty of power
While there has been much speculation surrounding what will be under the hood of the 2019 Ford Ranger Raptor, one of the leading contenders is the powerful and efficient 3.5L Ecoboost V6 engine which cranks out up to 375 horsepower and 470 lb/ft. of torque. Some experts are predicting that the new Raptor will also feature a version of the 2.7L Ecoboost V6 currently found in Ford F-150 models, while it seems certain that it will be available in a 3.2L Diesel engine option as well.
A whole new feel
Expect the new Raptor to ride much higher than other Ranger models, which means you’ll enjoy a clearer view and have a much easier time navigating all manner of obstacles. This beast of a vehicle is also likely to feature a five-link rear suspension system, ensuring the smoothest ride over even the toughest of terrain. Better yet, flared wheels add to the Raptor’s already aggressive stance, a shorter front bumper provides a huge improvement in terms of approach angle, while high performance off-road tires ensure that even the most challenging missions will feel safe, sturdy and grounded.
Stacks of style
If you liked the look of the 2017 Ford F150 Raptor you are going to love the new Ranger Raptor, as it is expected to follow many of the same styling cues; for example, the front grille, thick skid plate, tow hook and front bumper are all directly inspired by the F150 Raptor. In addition, the Ranger Raptor is also expected to feature steel running boards, making cabin entry easier while protecting its rocker panels at the same time.
The Australian connection
Ford Asia Pacific is playing a major role in the new Raptor by developing the T6 platform it will be built upon, with Ford’s Australian arm playing a particularly important part by working with their US counterparts on tuning work and local calibration efforts.
When will it arrive?
While the new Ford Ranger is set to be released in 2019 there is still no official confirmation on the status of the Raptor, although it is widely expected to be available within 12 months of the regular Ranger pickup hitting the market.
